How do I change the layout of a Studio template?
Short answer: A template provided by the platform (that is, supplied by DAGOBA) cannot be edited directly — you have to make a copy of your own: click “Save as my template” first. The “Layout” mode then becomes available.
First, a copy of your own
A platform template is used as it stands to generate a visual: “This template is provided by the platform: generate a visual directly, or save it as your own template to customize it freely.”
Click “Save as my template”. The copy belongs to you, and the selector switches between “Fill” and “Layout”.
The copy is only there to change the layout supplied by DAGOBA. If all you want is a visual, stay on the platform template and click “Generate”.
What Layout mode allows
- “Add an element”: “Text”, “Rectangle”, “Image”, “Logo”, “Products” or “QR code”.
- Move an element by dragging it, resize it by its handles, nudge it with the arrow keys.
- The “Elements” list gives the stacking order: “Move above” and “Move below”.
- The “Properties” panel sets the selected element — font, size, weight, color, alignment for a text; fill and corner radius for a rectangle; framing for an image.
- The “Page” part sets the “Background color” and the “Background image” with its opacity.
Save with “Save”. “Undo last action” steps back one change.
Only the format is final
Your templates stay editable: you can reopen them and rework their layout as often as you like. The format is the exception, because it sets the page dimensions — “The format is permanent: it sets the template's dimensions and can never be changed.”
For the same composition in another format, create a new template.
On an A4 flyer, three page constraints
- The dotted guide marks the area a desktop printer can cover. Anything past it risks being cut off: keep text and the logo inside it.
- A legal band is reserved at the bottom of the page: “It is added automatically: it is not one of the elements and cannot be moved, covered or deleted.” There is nothing to do about it, it fills itself in.
- An image placed too small for its print size triggers “Low resolution for printing”. The visual is generated anyway, but the image will come out blurry: replace it with a larger file, or shrink its slot.
Starting from a blank page
“New template” opens an empty template, after you pick a format. Starting from an existing template stays the shorter route.
If another admin on your account has changed the template
On an account with several admins, saving can stop on a “Save conflict”: someone changed this template while you had it open. Your changes stay on screen, and you decide between two buttons.
- “Overwrite their version” saves yours over theirs.
- “Reload their version” shows theirs instead. Your work is not thrown away for all that: just before the swap, your whole version is placed on the undo history.
To get it back, one click on “Undo last action” — or Ctrl+Z — is enough: your version counts as one undo step, not one step per change. It comes back on screen exactly as you left it, and the template returns to the unsaved state. If you want it to win, save: there will be no conflict this time, and the other admin's version is the one that gets replaced.
That history lives in the open page. It goes back about fifty steps, and leaving the composer wipes it — recover your version before you go, or it is lost.
