How do I choose my shop's two colors?

Short answer: On a draft, set the main color — dark, it has to stay legible on the white background — and the secondary color — light, it has to stay legible on the main one. You can type an exact color code taken from your logo.

Steps

  1. On the “Shops” page, open a draft of the shop.
  2. Set the “Main color”, then the “Secondary” color.
  3. You can type an exact color code — one of your logo's colors, for instance — rather than picking by eye.
  4. Save, then put the draft into service.

The main color

It is used for the shop's text, which sits on a white background. So it has to be dark: black, red, blue, dark green.
Avoid light or pale colors
Gray, yellow, sky blue, pink: on the shop's white background, they make the text unreadable.
If your organisation's color is pale, make it the secondary color and take a dark one as the main.

The secondary color

It colors certain illustrations, and above all it is used to write on top of the main color. So it has to contrast with it, and be as light as possible.
If your organisation has no second color, leave the default very light gray: it works with every main color.

The two colors work together

They are not two brand colors to place side by side, but a dark / light pair. A dark main and a light secondary give a legible shop whatever the colors chosen; two dark ones, or two light ones, give text you guess at more than you read.

Going further

You'll know it worked when: The shop's text reads effortlessly on the white background, and text placed on the main color reads effortlessly too.
