How do I organize my products into collections?

Short answer: On a draft, create and rename collections freely, then fill them by dragging products from your selection. Count on 6 products per collection for a good result.

Steps

  1. On the “Shops” page, open a draft — a live shop cannot be modified directly (orange “Modify the shop (create a draft)” button).
  2. Create, rename, delete, reorder: everything is free. Click on a collection's name to change it.
  3. Fill: grab a product's thumbnail in the selection and drop it into the collection you want.
  4. Reorder inside a collection: grab a product already placed and move it to the position you want.
  5. Move from one collection to another: the same gesture, dropping into a different collection.
  6. Save, then put the draft into service.
A demo shop starts with three common collections — Lifestyle, Sportswear, Sacs & Accessoires. There is nothing compulsory about them: rename them, delete them or replace them with the collections that fit your organisation.

How many products per collection

The maximum is 9, but the right target is 6. Past that, the collection gets crowded and the visitor no longer knows where to look — a shop is meant to be browsed, not sifted through.
The figure in parentheses next to the collection's name is its product counter. See I can no longer add a product to my collection.
The number shown is not the number of thumbnails
A product available in Men / Women / Junior counts as one, not three, as long as its versions stay together. That is what lets you stay within 6 products while offering plenty of choice. See What is a multi-version product.

Which collections to build

What works best follows the way your community thinks, not the way we do: by use (training, going out, supporters), by section (school, team, club), or by season. A collection called “Miscellaneous” is a sign that a real one is missing.

Going further

You'll know it worked when: The shop presents the collections you wanted, in the order you wanted, each one under the bar of 9 products.
