Putting a draft into service or opening the shop — what is the difference?
Short answer: They are two separate things. Putting into service publishes your draft over the existing shop: it is a working step, repeated with every batch of changes. Opening authorises orders, and happens only once.
Putting a draft into service
This is the blue button in the action bar, the one whose icon is two checkmarks. Its tooltip reads "Put this draft shop into service (replace the current shop)".
The draft then replaces the live shop: new products, new logos, new colors. You will make this move as often as you change the shop, including years after it opened. It changes nothing about the opening state.
Opening for orders
This is DAGOBA authorising the payment methods, triggered automatically as soon as the address is correct and the logos in use are approved. It is read from the cart color, and has nothing to do with the blue button.
Both together
The work on a draft is the same in both cases:
- an open shop can have drafts and accept updates, meaning those drafts being put into service — orders are never interrupted;
- a shop not yet open: the same, except the payment methods are not enabled on the shop, so nobody can buy.
A simple way to tell them apart: putting into service decides what the shop shows, opening lets visitors buy the products.
