Can I use my own domain name?

Short answer: Yes, shop.your-domain.com for instance. Two steps: at your host, a CNAME DNS record pointing to our servers; then, in the dashboard, the “Use my own web address” link under the shop's address, and the “Test” button. The https certificate is generated automatically, within about ten minutes of putting the draft into service.

Steps

On the “Shops” page, open a draft of the shop, then click the “Use my own web address” link under the shop's address. The “Custom web address (URL)” window opens and shows the exact address to point to.
At your host, create a CNAME DNS record making your subdomain — shop, for instance — point to that address.
In the dashboard, type your custom address and click “Test”. DAGOBA checks that your domain really points to our servers.
Click “Save”, then put the draft into service with Put this draft shop into service (blue button with two checkmarks): that is when the live shop takes your address.
Wait up to about ten minutes: the free SSL certificate is generated automatically so that the shop answers in https at your address.

If those terms mean nothing to you

It is a few minutes' work for your host or whoever looks after your website. Pass them the target address shown in the dashboard: it is the only thing they need.

A security warning during the first few minutes is normal. The certificate for your address is created by an automatic task that runs every 10 minutes. Until then, opening your address makes the browser show a warning instead of the padlock — “Your connection is not private”, for instance. The shop is not broken: its certificate is simply not ready yet, and the dagoba.shop address keeps working normally in the meantime. Wait about ten minutes, then reload the page. If the warning is still there after twenty minutes or so, contact us.

The dagoba.shop address keeps working. The custom address is added, it does not replace it.

Once the address is in place the link becomes “Remove my own web address”: it goes back to the dagoba.shop address alone, breaking nothing.

The link is inactive while the shop is still called “Shop title” — hovering it shows a tooltip reading “Change the shop title first”. It is the same lock as on the subdomain.

Why do it

An address in your own name reassures: the buyer stays with you. The https padlock and a domain they recognize are what tell an official shop apart from a link people distrust.
