Women's products: how do I highlight them?
Short answer: Three ways, from the lightest to the most complete: put the Women version first in the collection, create a collection reserved for women's products, or open a shop entirely for women.
Why do this
The versions of one product stay side by side in the collection, and the one at the head of that group is the one shown by default on the shop. So this is not about being in first position in the collection, but in front of the other versions of the same product.
More often than not the Men version ends up at the head, simply because it got there first.
A woman discovering the shop therefore sees a men's garment, and has to work out on her own that it exists in a women's version. Many do not, and conclude that the shop is not for them.
The three methods answer the same need with increasing effort, and combine very well.
1. Put the Women version first
The quickest method, and often the only one needed.
- On the “Shops” page, open a draft of the shop.
- In the collection, grab the Women version of the product and move it in front of the other versions of the same product. It only needs to reach the head of its own group: its position in the rest of the collection does not matter.
- Repeat for every product concerned, then save.
When the shop opens, all those products will show in their Women version. A buyer who wants the Men version finds it in the same place, losing nothing.
If your community is mostly female, do it on every product at once. It is five minutes of work and it completely changes the first impression.
2. A collection reserved for women's products
For when you want a visible collection, with its own name.
- On a draft, create a collection and give it a clear name — “Women”, “Women's Collection”.
- Drop the products into it from your selection. All the versions arrive together.
- Remove from this collection the versions you do not want in it (Men, Junior). Each version is its own thumbnail: you remove it individually, without touching the other collections.
- Place the collection at the height you want in the shop, then save.
The advantage is that a named section is seen and shared: you can send a link to “the Women's collection” to your female members.
Removing a version from a collection removes it neither from your selection nor from the other collections. The same product can therefore be presented in its Women version in one collection and in all versions in another.
3. A shop entirely for women
The most visible solution, for when the female audience really is an audience of its own — a women's section, a team, an event.
You can open several shops from the same selection. A dedicated shop has its own address, its own collections and its own communication: nothing there competes with the women's offer.
It is also the most demanding: one more shop to keep up to date, and one more audience to keep alive. Only choose it if you have enough to fill it and someone to talk about it.
Which one to choose
| Your situation | The method |
|---|---|
| Mixed community, mostly female | 1 — Women version first everywhere |
| You want an identifiable section | 1 + 2 |
| Women's section or team with its own identity | 2 + 3 |
Always start with 1: it costs nothing, it does not complicate the shop, and it is enough in most cases.
Going further
- What is a multi-version product — why versions travel together.
- How do I organize my products into collections — creating and ordering collections.
- How do I separate the versions of a product — presenting Men and Women side by side rather than in a single tile.
You'll know it worked when: When the shop opens, women's products are visible straight away, without the buyer having to look for them.
