How do I merge two duplicate contacts?
Short answer: Tick exactly two contacts, click Merge, name the profile to keep, settle the conflicting values, then confirm.
Steps
- In the list, tick the two profiles to bring together — exactly two.
- Click Merge in the orange bar.
- Name the Contact to keep with Keep this contact. The other becomes the Contact to delete.
- Wherever the two profiles differ, the window shows "Conflict — choose a value": pick the right one.
- Click Merge Contacts, then confirm.
You'll know it worked when: The kept profile carries the channels, tags and orders of both, and the second one is gone from the list.
What becomes of each thing
| Item | What happens |
|---|---|
| Contact channels | Both profiles' channels end up on the kept one. |
| Tags | Combined, with no duplicates. |
| Orders and history | Attached to the kept profile. |
| First name, last name | The value you chose where there was a conflict. |
The profile to delete is permanently erased by the merge. Check the direction of the merge before confirming: it is the one step that cannot be replayed.
If one of the two profiles is that of an administrator of your account, it is the one to keep. Two administrators' profiles cannot be merged.
