What can I do with several contacts selected?
Short answer: Tick some rows: an orange bar appears above the list with Add Tag(s), Remove Tag(s), Send Email, Verify emails, Merge and Delete.
The bar's actions

Selecting beyond the page
Ticking the top checkbox selects the whole page. If more pages follow, a link offers to select all N contacts: the bar shows "(all pages)" and the action covers everything your filters keep.
The bar's counter always tells you how many people you are acting on. Clear selection resets everything.
