What is a contact channel?

Short answer: It is a way of reaching the person: an Email, a Mobile or a WhatsApp number. A contact can have several, and one per type carries the PRIMARY marker.

Why several channels

The same person may have left you one email address when ordering, another one in a file you imported, and a mobile number. The Contact channels block keeps them all on the same profile.

The primary channel

The channel marked PRIMARY is the one used by default: it is the address an email goes to, and it is the one shown in the contacts list. There is one primary per type, not one for the whole profile.
To change it: on another email, use Set as primary email. The former primary becomes an ordinary channel again.

Add, edit, delete

Action How
Add Add a channel, then pick the Channel type, enter the Value, and tick Primary channel and Marketing consent if needed.
Edit Click the displayed value to correct it in place.
Delete The channel's bin icon, with a confirmation.
If you delete the primary channel while others of the same type remain, one of them automatically becomes the new primary — the profile is never left without a primary address.
A black LOGIN badge marks the address an administrator of your organisation uses to sign in to the dashboard. That one is changed from their own profile, not here.
