What is marketing consent?

Short answer: It is the person's agreement to receive your promotional emails. Without it they stay in your contacts, but they are left out of your emailings.

Where you read it

On the profile, each channel carries a Marketing consent switch. In the contacts list, a person who has not given their agreement is flagged with Refuses marketing emails.

Where it comes from

Situation What sets the consent
The contact came from an order The newsletter box they ticked, or did not tick, in the shop.
You imported them The I confirm these contacts agreed to be contacted. box on the import screen, which applies to the whole file.
You added them by hand Consent is set when the profile is created.

How it changes

You can flip the switch on the profile at any time.
The person themselves can unsubscribe from the link in your emailings. The refusal then appears in their Activity history as "Unsubscribed from marketing", and they are left out of later sends.
Consent decides who receives your bulk emails: a contact without it is skipped at send time, even when they are part of the selection.
