“Deposited” or “Delivered” — what is the difference?
Short answer: Deposited means the parcel has reached its pickup point and is waiting for its buyer. Delivered means the buyer has collected it. An order delivered to a home address has no Deposited step: it goes straight from Pending to Delivered.
Two moments, not two ways of saying the same thing
Deposited is a waiting state: the carrier has done its job, the parcel is at the pickup point, and it stays there until someone comes for it. An order can sit at Deposited for several days.
Delivered is the end of the journey: the parcel is in its buyer's hands.
Why some orders were never Deposited
The step only exists when there is a pickup point. For a home delivery the carrier hands the parcel over directly, so there is nothing to deposit and nothing to wait for: the order goes from Pending to Delivered in one move. In the order's Timeline, the Deposited step then stays undated.
The word "delivered" gets around: the carrier uses it when its round is done, and the production steps use it too for products arriving at our workshop. On this page the Delivered pill has one meaning only: the buyer has the parcel.
Where the difference really counts
To write to more than five contacts at once, your account needs an order at the Delivered status for at least five days. A Deposited order, however long it has been sitting there, is not enough: until someone has collected the parcel, the journey is not over.
